This is the Harley Peanut tank we did for Urraca Ksutoms' FUSSER Project. First we media blasted the tank, then we did a layer of super glossy clear powder - the graphics were added and then a second layer of powder. The blasted metal gives a reflectiveness similar to flake finishes.

What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin". The powder may be a thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.

Most Common Applications

Any objects made from metal (aluminum, steel, brass, copper, bronze, titanium, magnesium, etc.) can be powder coated. All of these metals, weather sand, die, investment casting, extruded, forged, and of course billet metals can be powder coated. Low density cast parts may require additional handling and possibly surface restoration by the experienced technicians at NQF.

Media Blasting

Preparation of your parts is essential before coating them, that's where Media Blasting comes in on every job we do to assure you get the best results. Media Blasting ‘etches’ the surface of the metal, creating a solid mechanical bond adhesion during the curing process. It also cleanses the metal. We use very fine angular media because it gives the best results for powder coating adhesion. We also use Glass Bead Media, especially for aluminum to reflects the light to your eyes better, and make teh metal appear whiter or brighter.
